Antimicrobial effectiveness

Antimicrobial coating
spray and nursing homes

In an environment in which dozens of residents, staff and visitors frequently come into contact with potentially contaminated surfaces and objects, interrupting the chain of infection early is critical. As visitations resume following a pause due to the pandemic, there is an increased risk of exposure to illness from visitors.

To protect the health of residents, many of whom have compromised immune systems, and reduce the risk of infection, a hygiene plan is required. Manual cleaning is not enough to prevent the spread of germs in nursing homes as it is only effective at the point of application. Dyphox’s comprehensive antimicrobial coating spray can form part of a thorough plan alongside personal hygiene and routine cleaning. Dyphox has been proven to kill bacteria and viruses with 99% efficacy, helping protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

Peace of mind for residents and visitors

Many people experience anxiety around visiting communal healthcare environments. However, allowing and supporting visitations is critical to prevent residents from becoming isolated. Creating a clean and low-risk environment for residents and their families provides peace of mind for all.

Increased infection control standards

Support an approach to hygiene maintenance that follows best practices by taking adequate measures. Dyphox kills bacteria and germs before they have a chance to settle on frequently-used surfaces without a build-up of resistance.

By modifying photocatalysts, the Dyphox team identified molecules that were capable of self-sanitising when exposed to light. Exposure to any form of light, whether natural or artificial, activates Dyphox’s antimicrobial effect when oxygen is present.

img-18

Based on photodynamics, the excitation of a photocatalyst by visible light (400–700 nm) leads to the creation of singlet oxygen by transferring the absorbed energy to ambient oxygen. The photodynamic effect induces fast and effective oxidative degeneration of the bacterial wall, and the bacterium quickly dies.

The singlet oxygen is large enough to be effective in killing germs but is not released into the surrounding environment. Dyphox is non-toxic to humans and the environment.
